Review queue and import history

Review queue and import history

MESH asks a person instead of guessing when an import finds something it cannot decide safely, such as two records that may be one machine. This page explains the review queue, where you answer those questions, and the import history, where you follow every import.

When MESH asks a question

An import opens a review item when:

Two records may be the same thing. MESH merges records by itself only on strong evidence, such as the same cloud resource identifier. On weaker evidence, for example the same public address, it asks.
A large number of records would disappear. If one import would mark many of a source's records as gone (more than 25, and more than a tenth of that source's records), MESH holds the change until a person confirms it. That protects you against, for example, an access change at the provider that hides half your estate.
Merged records point at each other in a loop. MESH asks a person to sort them out.

Until a question is answered, MESH keeps the records as they were.

The review queue in MESH is read-only. You answer the questions in Command.

Answer a question in Command

An Admin or CISO in Command does this.

1
In Command, open Assets and select Connected sources.
2
Select Review queue. The number in brackets is how many questions are waiting. If none are, Command says "Nothing is waiting for you."
3
For each question, read the card and choose:
Possibly one asset or Same public address: select Merge them if the two records are the same thing, or They are different to keep them apart.
A large drop is waiting for you: select Confirm the drop if those records really are gone, or Keep them to keep them.
A merge chain needs attention: select Acknowledge once you have looked into it.
4
Optionally, add a Note for the audit trail (optional) before you decide.

The decision and your name appear on the item in MESH under Decided By. A merge can be split again later in Command with Split off. See Assets in Command.

Follow the imports

1
Select Import history in the navigation.
2
The list shows each import's Source, Status, when it started and finished, and a Reason where it did not complete normally.
3
Select an import to see its details: the provider, the status, when it ran, and under Results how many records it read and changed.
The Import history page in MESH with completed imports

An import has one of these statuses:

StatusMeaning
runningThe import is in progress.
completeEverything was read and the register is up to date.
partialSome of the source could not be read. MESH kept the records it could not check; nothing was removed because of the gap.
heldThe import found a large drop and is waiting for a person. See the review queue.
failedThe import did not succeed. The Reason says why.
skippedThe import did not run, for example because another import of the same source was still running.

Imports run every hour for each connected source, and right after you verify or refresh a source. See Connecting sources.
